Not Your Typical Beach Read

Typically, I like to read books with obscure plots, cliffhangers, and characters whom I can come to admire. However, over the summer I read a different kind of book. Parts of it were dark and hard to read. This non-fiction account had people in it I did not find myself admiring at all. The book I’m referring to is called, The Lost Dogs, by Jim Gorant.

Gorant takes a deep look into what went on in the Michael Vick dog fighting case, how the trial unfolded, and most importantly what happened to all of the dogs found on his property. This book is not for the faint of heart. Being a dog person, and an animal lover in general, this book shed light on some of the harsh realities that go unseen in our world today.

I would reccomend this book to anyone looking to broaden their literary horizons or just become aware of a serious matter they may not know much about. Although, The Lost Dogs, will take you through a slew of different emotions, its overall purpose is to educate.
