Next time you are looking to broaden your movie horizons, look no further. Pick up the movie Crash, and enjoy. You will thank me later. Now, having just seen this movie (released in 2004)  for the first time, I am upset that I had not seen it sooner.

With stars like Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillion, Terrance Howard,  Don Cheadle (and many more!) you are sure to be impressed. I sat down to watch this film not having ever heard of it before, and not having any expectations. I left the film in awe, feeling completely humbled.

Crash is a trip, to say the least. The film delves head first into hard-hitting issues such as racism and cultural diversity. It gives a look into every aspect of these issues. You get an unbiased perspective of everyone. Rich men, poor men, whites, blacks, Asians, Latinos, females, educated, uneducated, EVERYONE. It’s one of those films with many plot lines that all seem to intertwine in the grand scheme of things.

The takeaway from this film is rare. I usually leave a movie feeling either entertained or just down right disappointed that I wasted my time on it… not with Crash. The word that most accurately captures how I felt after this film is catharsis. You experience a whole slew of emotions while enjoying the intricate details of its plot, and end just in a complete state of awe.

I don’t want to ruin anything, but I will tell you that after watching this film, I immediately would put it in my top 5 films of all time (up there with the likes of Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine, The Dark Knight and Inception.) After watching this film, I felt immeasurably small. Now, that may sound silly, but seriously. Think of yourself comparatively to everyone else in the world. That’s where this film took me. It had me thinking of all my known experiences that have shaped my worldview, and realizing that no one else in the entirety of the world can say they have the same one.

You won’t understand until you see it, and I highly recommend doing that for yourself. Next time you want to see some good film, and maybe do a little life pondering, Crash is the way to go.
