Twerk Train: Next Stop, The KFC Yum Center

Okay good people of Louisville, you’ve probably heard the news already, but Miley Cyrus is bringing her Bangerz Tour to none other than our KFC Yum center. With tickets set to go on sale November 16th, it’s high time you decide whether you are on or off the twerk train.

But, prepare yourselves people, because she’s coming either way. And it will likely be a very entertaining night of shenanigans. With ticket prices starting at $42.50, it could be money well spent, for a night of good tunes and a spectacle nonetheless. I’m willing to bet there will be plenty of people watching opportunities in the crowd as well, or hey, maybe you’d like to take it as an opportunity for you yourself to dress ridiculously….whatever floats your boat.

What with all the recent hype surrounding Miley’s VMA performance… it pains me to continue talking about this lady. However, that’s not what this is about. Miley is all set to take over our city for the night of April 19th, 2014. I will admit, I’m not the biggest Miley fan, but I can definitely jam to some of her songs… because the girl can sing. So who cares what color hair she has? And that she happens to have a nude latex two-piece in her wardrobe. No one’s forcing anyone else to jump on that trend… unless you want to of course. And if so, buy your tickets and enjoy the show!

Playlist Must-Haves

In my last post, I mentioned how I recently decided to start training for the full marathon for the Ky Derby Festival. This commitment, in combination with the upcoming opening of UofL’s new Rec Center have got me seriously analyzing the condition of my current workout playlist.

I had to make some critical decisions on who would ultimately get to stay on this playlist, and I must say, I did some definite de-bulking on my Ipod in the process. I also made a lot of new additions, though too. I had to add a lot of the songs I always feel like I’m missing during my workouts. It was a long ordeal, but I can say I’m happy with the end product. Here are my top 5 songs on my workout playlist that really get me up and moving…. and some honorable mentions as well.

1. Diet Mountain Dew (Lana Del Ray)

2. Demons (Imagine Dragons)

3. Itchin’ On A Photograph (Grouplove)

4. Gotta Have It (Kanye West and Jay-Z)

5. Don’t Look Back in Anger (Oasis)

Some other quality get-goers: Doin’ It Right (Daft Punk), Laid (James), Bad Romance (Lady Gaga), Slow Down (Selena Gomez), Beez In the Trap (Nicki Minaj), Swing Swing (All American Rejects), Homecoming (Kanye West), Off to the Races (Lana Del Ray).

Just Groovin’ Along

Let’s talk tunes.

I love music and can be convinced to try out pretty much any type of musical genre, because you never know what you are missing out on, honestly. I can’t say that I love one specific type of music either, because music is a mood thing, and a groove thing. If you have any passion for good tunes at all, you know what I’m talking about. Maybe you’ve had a bad day, you want something chill. Maybe you’re trying to study, you don’t want words, just a good beat. You’re getting ready for a night on the town, you need some hype. Whatever you’re feeling, a good song is never too far away.

A few weeks ago, I heard this gem by a band called Mayor Hawthorne.

Groovy right? My thoughts exactly. I listened to their whole album and even recently took it upon myself to see them play live at Headliners, here in Louisville.  I’m not entirely sure what genre they want to fall under, but in my opinion we should just call them great. Their musical style is catchy and definitely has some soul to it (check out their song, Backseat Lover and you’ll understand what I mean on the soul thing.)

Regardless, they will get you up, get you dancing, and you might even find yourself singing along after a verse or two. Something about their music is oddly familiar and I highly recommend checking them out… After all, what’s the worst that could happen? Not too sure about Her Favorite Song up there, here’s another good one, with Kendrick Lamar called Crime.

If you like them, consider seeing them live. The music is just as good, if not better! Tickets were inexpensive and the crowd was filled with people of all ages, just groovin’ along. Check out their website and see where they’ll be next. Mayor Hawthorne Official Site
